Iris Hoppe, Dipl. Visual Artist, born 1970 in Solingen (DE), works in Cologne. From 1992 to 1996 she studied fine arts at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, where she resided until 2013.
Her work spans a broad spectrum, including time-based media installation, participatory art in public space, in situ, performance, photography, and drawing.
Hoppe has participated in numerous international exhibitions and festivals, including in the Netherlands, England, France, Italy, and Thailand. She has received several grants and nominations.
Since 2007, she has held teaching positions on contemporary art practice at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Saar and the Ruhrakademie Schwerte. In addition to her teaching activities, she is active as a curator and in non-academic art mediating practice as well as in cultural politics in professional associations. She has been deputy chairwoman of GEDOK KÖLN e.V. since 2017, a member of Deutscher Künstlerbund e.V. and active in the Kulturrat NRW.
For the IGBK, she has been on the board since June 2023 and represents a.o. the European Secretariat of German Culture NGOs in Culture Action Europe (CAE).
Iris is active in the visual artists | diverse conditions working group on visual artists associations and structures.
