The "Floodwater Residency Program" is an artistic work by American artist Mark Dion. It is located directly on the Seege River in Gartow, opposite the Zehntspeicher which is one of the exhibition venues of the Westindischer Kunstverein Gartow. The small house on stilts was built in 2007 as part of the Art Trail project.
Since then, the Seegeniederung Gartow/Elbtalaue (Artistic Field Laboratory in the Marches of the River Seege) has primarily invited visual artists to enter this research station into productive retreat.
Mark Dion understands the Floodwater Residency as a social sculpture. The artistic works created by the residents during their stay are thus part of this concept. The program requires the artists to explore a theme that can be broadly related to their stay.

The stilt construction also makes the station suitable for stays during flood seasons when the lowlands are inundated.
The Floodwater Residency operates without heating, electricity, Wi-Fi, and drinking water or sanitary facilities, which applicants should be aware of. Public restrooms at the nearby Gartower See and the electricity connection at the Zehntspeicher are available for use during opening hours.
Bed linens and towels are provided!
The program requires the artists to explore a theme that can be broadly related to their stay. A stay of at least one week and a maximum of four weeks should be planned for your project. A selection of the results created on site (e.g., in the form of writing, images, or sound) should be made available to the Kunstverein archive at the end of the stay.
