In an interdisciplinary artist-in-residence programme, the Junge Akademie supports international artists from all art sections of the Akademie der Künste with residency and work grants. The three-month studio residencies offer the scholarship holders time, space and resources to focus on their art in a new environment. The programme creates an open space for artistic research, art and knowledge production, which is actively shaped by the different cohorts in interaction with mentors and members of the Academy. It is part of the Academy's self-image to preserve this free and protected space for artistic expression and exchange, experimentation and encounter across political and cultural borders.
Several times a year, the Junge Akademie of the Akademie der Künste opens its studios in the Hansaviertel for all-day Open Studios with presentations by current scholarship holders. Designed by the architect Werner Düttmann, the spacious two-storey studios with a view of the Tiergarten are used by the scholarship holders as an exhibition space to show existing works and works in progress and to provide insights into the panorama of their ideas and projects.
