Since 1989, the municipality of Stuhr has maintained an artists' residence in the historic mill ensemble of Stuhr-Heiligenrode to promote young artists in Lower Saxony and Bremen. Within the framework of two ten-month scholarships in the field of visual arts, the artists are provided with ideal conditions for a creative and innovative working stay in the spacious studio rooms and comfortable flats.
The scholarship is announced annually in autumn. The artistic advisory board meets in May to discuss the selection of future scholarship holders. The ten-month scholarship begins in August and November of each year.
The Stuhr-Heiligenrode artists' residence is supported by the municipality of Stuhr and the state of Lower Saxony. The scholarship holders are currently provided with a monthly scholarship of €1400 each as well as free accommodation and use of the studios. At the end of the stay, an exhibition is made possible with a subsidy for a catalogue. The exhibition takes place in the former miller's residence in the idyllically situated mill ensemble.
