The Foundation Künstlerdorf Schöppingen is located in two listed manor houses from the early 19th century, situated in the rural area of Münsterland, close to the Dutch border. Every year, the artists' village awards around 40 scholarships in the fields of visual arts, literature and composition. Since its foundation in 1989, a total of around 900 artists have been invited for a residency. The scholarships are each linked to a two- to six-month stay in the artists' village. The programme is open to international applications and has no age limit. The selection of the scholarship holders is made by expert juries, which are renewed on a rotational basis.
The programme, which is organised by the artists' village, offers the opportunity to regularly gain insights into artistic processes and to engage in personal exchange with the scholarship holders. In addition to ongoing events such as monthly dinners and brunches, the Künstlerdorf organises the annual CAP (Curating for Advanced Practices) programme with the aim of discussing production conditions and implementation issues for artistic practices and developing new strategies and structures in the arts.
At the end of each year, a publication is published that includes documentation of the residencies, the ongoing programme and the CAP programme. Annual editions serve to support the work of the artists' village.
In order to sustainably promote the exchange of scholarship holders beyond the residencies, the alumni programme generally offers the possibility to visit the Künstlerdorf as a guest or to participate in later projects. This option is by arrangement or by invitation.
Accommodation for partners, family members or assistants can be provided by arrangement and subject to availability.
