Künstlergut Prösitz

Between Leipzig and Dresden, near the town of Grimma on the Mulde River, lies the village of Prösitz in the hilly landscape of central Saxony. For 30 years, life in this community of 80 souls has also been shaped by the activities of the Künstlergut Prösitz association. A three-sided farmstead dating from the mid-19th century is being gradually expanded by the association in accordance with monument preservation guidelines. Living spaces, studios and workshops have been created and are available for artistic work. Künstlergut Prösitz has set itself a unique and distinctive task, both in Germany and perhaps also from an international perspective, by offering young sculptors with children opportunities to work and making its facilities available to the public. However, this also gives rise to a number of complex functional, social and financial requirements.

The children are looked after on site by a daycare provider. Each artist and her child/children are provided with a room with a small bathroom.

Workshops with flexible options, from paper work to heavy sculpture and different materials such as metal, stone, clay, wood, wicker, etc. Efforts to promote artists (in the form of scholarships during the annual symposia, also within the EU framework) Social services, e.g. childcare during symposia and working stays Art education in public and private institutions (courses) Realisation of art objects in public spaces Use and preservation of a listed three-sided farmstead in central Saxony as a place of residence and work (in this context, also awards such as the Julius H. W. Kraft Prize, Hammerhai of the Saxony State Association of Fine Arts, etc.) Public exhibitions (nationwide) and open days Plein air events for women, journeymen and day labourers Cooperation with other cultural institutions
