On 28 September 2026, a digital networking event was held with 20 organizations running artist residency programs in Germany and it was organized by HBK Braunschweig/Braunschweig Projects, PACT Zollverein, and IGBK.
The event began with a report by Dr. Nikolai Blaumer on the ADIR conference "Creative Shelters on a Temporary Basis", which took place in June at the ZK/U in Berlin.
Afterwards, artistic-systemic therapist Heather O'Donnell provided insights into the mental challenges faced by residency program operators, addressing questions such as: What specific stresses and challenges do teams at artist residency programs experience in their day-to-day work—and what does this mean for their own well-being? What approaches and methods exist to help teams effectively manage these challenges and support one another?
In the second part, the participants were able to engage in in-depth discussions on three key topics in smaller discussion groups:
- Jury and selection processes amid rising applicant numbers,
- Public relations / visibility, and
- Inclusion into the local community / neighborhood.
