The Werkleitz association supports professional artists and young artists, realises and presents film culture and media art, from short feature films and documentaries to interactive installations and internet projects. Werkleitz was founded in 1993 in Tornitz/Werkleitz and has been based in Halle since 2003. The annual Werkleitz Festival, which evolved from the Werkleitz Biennale, is an international presentation platform for film and media art in the new federal states.

The European Media Artists in Residence Exchange scholarship and funding programme, initiated by Werkleitz back in 1995 and funded by Creative Europe, led by the European Media Art Platform (EMAP), A38 Production Scholarship, Werkleitz Project Funding, Supported Artist by Werkleitz supports and networks individual artists from Germany and abroad. Since 2011, Werkleitz has been offering the Professional Media Master Class, which lasts several months and is a successful practical training course for documentary filmmakers and media professionals in East/Central Germany. The in-house equipment rental service offers equipment for non-commercial film and video productions and provides advice. In cooperation with the Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle, Werkleitz runs the Videorama as a presentation venue for video art.
