Information & Service
IGBK is a good source for visual artists that search for international exchange opportunities, run international projects and are interested in grants and competitions. International mobility is our utmost concern.
Since April 2013 the infomation portal www.touring-artists.info has been online. touring artists is a joint project of the IGBK and the German Center of the International Theatre Institute (ITI). The website provides artists for both the performing arts and the visual artscomprehensive information on visas/residence, transport/customs, taxes, social insurance, other insurances, and copyright related to cross-border mobility. Furthermore a database gives answer to the question: Where can artists apply for funding and grants for international exchange programmes?
The website is addressed to artists living in Germany and working abroad for a limited time as well as to foreign artists who come to work in Germany temporarily.
Moreover, the following pages enhance transparency of international opportunities for visual artists:
the opportunities section offers continually updated information regarding competitions and scholarships that are open for application also for artists in Germany.
Furthermore some transnational and international programmes as well as European/international networks are presented that are important for the visual arts sector.
The artist-in-residence page collects points of interest related to that topic, as residencies play an important role within mobility infrastructures.
The IGBK office also helps with formalities with respect to (exhibition) projects abroad and provides advice regarding transport and customs issues, for example.
It also issues the Certificate for the Customs Authorities for the free flow of works by living artists for artists based in Germany.
Professional visual artists (residing in Germany) can apply for the International Identity Card. This card provides ticket price reductions or free admission in many museums worldwide.
